RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team concluded the Duramed Collegiate Invitational in third place Sunday afternoon, March 8, on the par 71, 6,260-yard Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club. The Eagles posted a 300 in the final round to wind up with a score of 914 (310-304-300), finishing behind the University of Kansas (883) and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (907).

Senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) paced the attack for the Green and White with a 223 (76-73-74). Fleet, who tied for fifth place, was the lowest scoring EMU player for the fifth time in seven events this season. Additionally, her total of 223 is the 15th best 54-hole total in the program's history.

Behind Fleet, senior Courtney Ail (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) notched a 73 for a three-day total of 226 (75-78-73) to move up to 15th place. Sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) followed up her second round 71 with a 75 for a combined total of 1227 in a tie for 18th place. Junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) tied for 61st with a 238 (78-82-78), while sophomore Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) placed 89th with a 249 (81-86-82).

Kansas ran away with the team title, scoring a combined 883 over three rounds for a 24-stroke margin of victory, the largest in tournament history. The Jayhawks' title was the seventh by a different team than the year before as the Duramed Collegiate Invitational is yet to have two-time team or individual champions.

Meghan Gockel of Kansas and Sara Wikstrom of Arkansas-Little Rock battled in the first sudden death playoff in tournament history. Gockel won with a par on the first playoff hole as her team also captured the team title in record fashion. Fifty-four holes was not enough to settle the medalist award as Gockel and Wikstrom each finished with identical scores of 218.

The Eagles now take over three weeks off before traveling to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Invitational, March 30-31.
