DADE CITY, Fla. – Senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) remained re-hot on the weekend, finishing with a round of 73 in a tie for 13th place with a one-under par 215 (73-69-73) Sunday afternoon, March 8, at the Ron Smith/USF Invitational. As a team, the Eagles recorded a mark of 869 (284-289-296) in a tie for eighth place with Columbus State University on the 7,153 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Behind Ross, junior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) carded a 74 on the tournament's final day to finish in a tie for 18th place with a 216 (70-72-74). Junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) placed 22nd with a 217 (70-73-74) and junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) came in 63rd with a 223 (71-75-77). Sophomore Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) rounded out the lineup with a 245 (74-75-75) for a tie for 72nd place. Competing as an individual, senior Joey Stimac (Burton, Mich.-Kearsley (Mott C.C.)) turned in a 76 in the final round to finish with a 225 (78-71-76).
Texas Tech University won the overall team tournament with a 6-under 858. The Red Raiders defeated Florida Southern in a playoff by a total score of 16-19. The individual champions were Florida Southern's Matt Stauch and Texas Tech's Santiago Rivas. Stauch and Rivas posted a score of 207 leaving them at nine-under for the tournament.
Head coach Bruce Cunningham and the Eagles return to action at the Linger Longer Invitational, March 20-22, in Greensboro, Ga.
