YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team performed well Saturday night, March 7, at the Eagle Invitational, as the Eagles took fourth place in their final home meet of the 2009 season with a team score of 193.375.
The No. 13 Tigers of the University of Missouri took first with a team score of 195.700, followed by a 195.675 from the Central Michigan University Chippewas and a 195.450 from the No. 25 Kent State University Golden Flashes.
After being named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week earlier this week, junior gymnast Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) hit a career-best mark in the floor exercise, as her 9.900 was good for third overall in the competition. Grigg also tallied a 9.775 on the vault, a 9.500 on the bars and a 9.725 on the balance beam to finish in fifth with an all-around score of 38.900.
Sophomore Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Bellbrook) had a career day at the Eagle Invitational, as she tallied a career-best 9.800 in the floor exercise to help EMU finish in second behind Missouri on the floor with a 49.075. Crouch also notched a 9.700 on the balance beam to tie for 13th place.
Freshmen Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) and Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ontario-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) each put up impressive marks in the floor exercise, as Yourick carded a 9.825, while Wood notched a 9.800 – both career-bests for the freshmen duo.
The Eagles wrap up their regular season Saturday, March 14, in Mount Pleasant, Mich. when they take on CMU in a Mid-American Conference match-up. The meet is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rose Arena.
