DADE CITY, Fla. – Behind solid second rounds by senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) and junior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary), the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team remained in a tie for fourth place at the Ron Smith/USF Invitational on the 7,153 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. The Eagles have a team score of 573 (284-289) and are with the University of Louisville, which is ranked 37th nationally.
Ross carded a three-under par 69 on the tournament's second day to move up to 11th place with a 142 (73-69). Buke finished at even-par 72 to go along with his first day mark of 70 for a total of 142. Junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) sits in a tie for 20th place with a 143 (70-73) and junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) is in 42nd with a 146 (71-75). Sophomore Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) rounded out the lineup with a 75 for a tie for 71st place with a 149 (74-75), respectively. Competing as an individual, senior Joey Stimac (Burton, Mich.-Kearsley (Mott C.C.)) turned in a 71 to move up into a tie for 71st with a 149 (78-71).
Marquette leads the field with a 6-under 570 combined score including a 1-under round of 287 on Saturday.
The final round will take place at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, March 8, with a shotgun start.
