RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Senior Courtney Ail (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) fired an opening round 75 to lead the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team Friday afternoon, March 6, at the Duramed Collegiate Invitational. Aili is in a nine-way tie for eighth place, while the Eagles are in fourth place as a team with a 310 on the par 71, 6,260-yard Quail Runs Course at the Rio Verde Country Club.
Behind Aili, senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) carded a 76 to sit in a 10-way tie for 17th place. Junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) is tied for 31st with a 78, while sophomores Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) and Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) are tied for 62nd with an 81.
The University of Kansas shot a 294 in the first round and holds a 10 shot lead over the University of Toledo with a 304. Northern Arizona is third with a 308 followed by EMU and a three-way tie for fifth place with Cincinnati, Kansas State and Ball State. A tie atop the leader board for the top stop between Kansas' Kalynd Carson and Toledo's Michelle Hui who both finished the first round with a one-under 72
