Stephany Fleet Takes Second at UALR Women's Golf Classic

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Eastern Michigan University senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) continued her strong play with her sixth consecutive top five showing, turning in a second place finish at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Golf Classic here at the Diamante Country Club, March 30-31. Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the Dewitt, Mich. native carded a 76 in the final round to finish with a 222 (75-71-76), the 11th lowest 54-hole total in school history.
As a team, the Eagles finished in fifth place with a team score of 946 (318-309-319) as host Arkansas Little took home the invitational hardware with a 927 (303-320-304). The Trojans needed a playoff to fend off Florida International University, who also posted a two-day total of 927. UMKC's Kelsey Kipp captured medalist honors with a five-over 221 (70-76-75).
Sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) gave the Eagles another player among the top 25, after carding a 82 to finish tied for 23rd with a 235 (76-77-82). Junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) followed with a 238 (84-77-77) while senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) turned in a 251 (83-84-84) for 73rd. Sophomore Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) rounded out the lineup with a 260 (84-85-91) for 94th place.
Eastern Michigan returns home to Ypsilanti before making the trek to Richmond, Ky., April 11-12, for the EKU Spring Invitational. The Eagles have claimed the last two EKU Spring Tournament titles, including dominating the 2008 field with a 20-shot victory at the par-72, 5,817-yard course Arlington Golf Club.
