DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished the second round of the Spring Break Championship Saturday, March 27, with an 18 hole score of 298 (+14). The Eagles, shooting 581 (+13) for the tournament, are currently in fifth place behind tournament frontrunner Illinois (569, +1), who still holds the lead after two rounds. The inaugural tournament is being played on the par 71, 6,722-yard Victory Course at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla.
With tough winds making today's conditions difficult, the Eagles second round scores were a little higher. Junior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary), who held the top spot on the leader board heading into the day, dropped back to third place after shooting a 75 for a cumulative total of three-under 139 (64-75). Junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich. -Portage Central) is tied for 13th with a two-day mark of 144 (70-74)
Senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) is tied at 39th with a score of 149 (75-74) followed by junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) in 53rd with a 151 (74-77). Sophomore Nic Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) is also in a tie for 61st with a 36-hole total of 153 (78-75).
Illinois (569) held on to its lead with a team score of 292 in the second round. Northwestern (574) is five strokes back in second. Michigan (577), Ohio State (579), and EMU (581) round out the top-five. Jonathon Brewers of Northwestern and Scott Langley of Illinois are currently tied for first in the individual competition with two-day totals of 135.
The tournament will conclude Sunday, March 29, with the final 18 holes beginning at approximately 7:30 a.m. Fans can follow the tournament with live scoring at golfstatresults.com.
