Burke Setting the Standard at FAU Spring Break Championship

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Led by Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) and Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich. -Portage Central) with opening rounds of 64 and 70, respectively, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team sits in third place after the first round of the FAU Spring Break Championship Friday in Delray Beach, Fla.
The Eagles began the tournament on a high note with a team score of one-under 283 on the par 71, 6,722-yard Gleneagles Country Club. They are just six strokes back from Big Ten Conference foe Illinois, who leads the 14-team field at 277, and Ohio State at 280.
Burke was on fire all day long, equalling his 18-hole personal best score of seven-under 64 to lead the 84-person field. The Baden, Ontario native recorded seven brides on the day with a pair of 32s on both the front and backsides.
The Illini's Scott Langley is just one stroke off of Burke's pace with a 65, while UI's Luke Guthrie and the Buckeye's Vaughn Snyder are tied for third place with an opening round 66.
Behind Burke and Lemons, junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) is tied for 32nd place at three-over 74. Senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) and Nic Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) rounded out the lineup with a 75 and a 78, respectively.
The FAU Spring Break Championship continues with 18 holes Saturday before concluding with a final round Sunday. Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
