GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team turned in back-to-back solid rounds of 299 and 288 Friday afternoon, March 20, on the first day of the Linger Longer Invitational at the 7,048 yard, par-72 Reynolds Landing Golf Course. The Eagles combined total of 587 puts them in fourth place, eight stokes off the pace of tournament co-leaders Georgia and Oklahoma State at 579 and Wichita State in third place with a 585.
The Bulldogs of Georgia are the nation's top team according to the most recent Golf State rankings, while the Cowboys of Oklahoma State are the second ranked team in the poll. The individual leader is Bill Jones of Mercer, who finished the second round at six-under 138 (68-70) followed by Harris English of Georgia at 139 (69-70).
Junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) fired rounds of 74 and 69 to sit in seventh place at one-under par 143. Junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) also notched a round under-par with a second round 71 after an opening score 76 for 13th place with a 147. Senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) and sophomore Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) are tied for 20th with cumulative totals of 149. Rounding out the lineup, Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) totaled a 156 (78-78) for a tie for 48th in the 75 person field.
The third and final round of the Linger Longer Invitational will begin Saturday at 8:20 a.m.
