AKRON, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team fell short Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, as the University of Akron Zips handed the Eagles a 71-57 loss at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The loss drops EMU to 4-17 and 0-9 in the Mid-American Conference this season, while Akron improves to 9-13 (4-5 MAC) with the victory.
Freshman Paige Redditt (Belton, Mo.-Belton) nearly notched her first career double-double, tallying a career-high 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field to go along with nine boards. Akron's Kara Murphy scored a game-high 21 points.
Down by as many as 11 points in the first frame, the Eagles managed to pull within a basket, as back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) and sophomore De'Ja Wills (Anderson, Ind.-Anderson) made it a 25-23 game with under two minutes left in the half. Wills would again connect from downtown in the waning seconds of the first half to make it a 32-26 game at intermission.
