Women's Golf Finishes Second at MSU Spring Kickoff

OXNARD, Calif. – Behind fourth place finishes from senior Stephany Fleet (DeWitt, Mich.-DeWitt) and sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished runner-up today, Feb. 24, at the MSU Spring Kickoff in Oxnard, Calif. As a team, the Eagles shot 75-over-par (308-323-308=939) to finish in second behind the Florida International University Panthers, who shot 31-over par (298-297-300=895) as a team to take home the title.

Peters had her best performance in the final round, as she shot a two-over-par 74 to finish the tournament 12-over-par and tied for fourth place. Peters tallied a 75 in the opening round and followed it up with a 79 in round two.

Fleet tied her best mark of the tournament in the final round, carding a two-over-par 74 to finish tied for fourth with Peters at 12-over-par. Fleet shot a 74 in round one and an 80 in round two.

Junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Quebec-Therese-Martin) followed up an impressive six-over-par 78 in round two with an eight-over-par 80 in the final round to finish the tournament tied in 18^th place at 27-over-par.

Senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelesa) shot a nine-over-par in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 20th place at 28-over-par, while sophomore Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) notched her best round of the tournament in the final round, carding an eight-over-par 80 to finish tied in 29th place at 35-over-par. Freshman Maria Tsiouras (Stockholm, Sweden- Universal School) tallied her best round in the final round of the tournament, carding a six-over-par 79 to finish tied in 35th place at 40-over-par.

The Eagles now head to Rio Verde, Ariz. to compete in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, March 6-8.
