Women’s Golf Remains in Second Place at MSU Spring Kickoff

OXNARD, Calif. – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team posted a team score of 323 Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, to remain in second place at Morehead State Spring Kickoff. The Eagles have a two-day mark of 631 (308-323) on the 6,129-yard, par-72 Victoria Lakes Course at River Ridge Golf Club.
Florida International University increased its overall lead by shooting a nine-over-par 297 in the tournament's second round. The Panthers came in with a 298 and now lead second place EMU by 36 strokes heading into the final round. Individually, FIU's Paula Hurtado holds down the tournament's top spot by carding a 71 after a 74 day one total. She leads teammate Belen Buendia, who fired a 77 on Monday, by two strokes for the overall individual lead. FIU also has players in third and fourth place.
Senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) and sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) are deadlocked in a three-way tie for fifth place. Fleet followed up a first round 74 with an 80, while Peters notched a 79 after an opening round 75. Junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Quebec-Therese-Martin) recorded a 78 for the Green and White's lowest round of the day, to move into a tie for 23rd place with a 163 (85-78).
Senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelesa) and sophomore Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) completed the EMU lineup with an 86 and an 89, respectively. Competing as an individual, freshman Maria Tsiouras (Stockholm, Sweden- Universal School) has totaled a 177 (87-90) hold down a 44th in the 45 person field.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. PST with a shotgun start.
