Gymnastics Takes Fourth at Washington Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team had a good showing at the Washington Invitational Saturday night, Feb. 21, as the Eagles finished in fourth place with a team score of 191.475.

The No. 24 ranked Huskies of the University of Washington took home the top spot with a 196.000, followed by the No. 14 Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois with 195.900 and the No. 9 Beavers of Oregon State University finishing with a team score of 195.800.

Junior gymnast Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) continued to put up high marks, as her routine on the floor earned her a 9.800, good for a fifth place finish. Grigg also tallied a 9.750 on the vault, a 9.625 on the bars and a 9.150 on the beam, finishing with an all-around score of 38.325.

Senior Maureen Moss (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township) had a stellar performance on the balance beam, carding a 9.800 to tie for 10^th place with Washington's Kelly Gilbert and Illinois' Nicole Cowart.

Freshmen Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ontario-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) and Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) each carded solid marks in the competition, as Wood earned a 9.700 on the beam, a 9.525 on the bars and a 9.375 in the floor exercise, while Yourick's floor routine earned her a 9.700 after carding a 9.575 on the bars.

The Eagles will be in action again in Seattle when they take on the Falcons of Seattle Pacific University Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. (10 p.m. EST).
