Women’s Golf in Second Place After Day One of MSU Spring Kickoff

OXNARD, Calif. – After the first day of action at the Morehead State University Spring Kickoff, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is second in the eight-team field. The Eagles shot a first round 308 on the par 72, 6,129-yard Victoria Lakes Course at River Ridge Golf Club.
Florida International University leads the field at 10-over par 298, 10 strokes ahead of EMU at 20-over. The Panthers' Belen Buendia shot a first round 70 for a four-stroke advantage over teammate Paula Hurtado and EMU senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt).
Behind Fleet, sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) fired a 75 to sit in fourth place. Senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelesa) rounded out the Eagles in the tournament's top 10 with a round of 77 to tie for seventh place. Sophomore Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) and junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Quebec-Therese-Martin) completed the EMU lineup with an 82 and an 85, respectively.
Competing as an individual, freshman Maria Tsiouras (Stockholm, Sweden- Universal School) notched an 87 to hold down a tie for 37th in the 45 person field.
Monday's second round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. PST with a shotgun start.
