Eagles Move Into First Place at MAC Championship

NASHVILLE
, Tenn.- The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team won all four events to move into first place after the second day of the Mid-American Conference Championship, Feb. 19. The Eagles have a 106-point lead over the nearest MAC school.

 
EMU leads the way with 366 points, while Miami is in second with 260 points. Buffalo is in third with 226 points with Ball State in fourth at 170 points.
 
The four MAC schools are competing with teams from the Sun Belt Conference. The combined meet will be scored as one, but student-athletes and teams from each conference will be recognized separately. The top three finishers from each conference will be awarded medals and the top teams from each conference will be named their respective champion.
 
Senior Dan Kish (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) won the 500 free to start the evening for the Eagles. The senior hit the wall in 4:25.39 to take home the win. Following Kish, Donald Ellison (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary) finished the 200 IM in 1:49.91 to take the MAC title.
 
Senior Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) then won the 50 free, finishing in an NCAA B-cut time of 19.57, becoming the only swimmer to eclipse the 20-second mark at the meet. Fellow senior Ethan Crabtree (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster) took runner-up honors, hitting the wall at 20.43.
 
The 200 free relay team of Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Crabtree, Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) and Roe then ended the day for an Eagles with a win, finishing in 1:20.66.
 
The Championship meet will continue tomorrow, Feb. 20, with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, one-meter dive and 400 medley relay events scheduled.
