NASHVILLE, Tenn.- After winning the first four events of the evening, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team thoroughly increased its lead at the Mid-American Conference Championship, Feb. 20. The Eagles have 728 points, giving them a 271.5 point lead over the University at Buffalo.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- After winning the first four events of the evening, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team thoroughly increased its lead at the Mid-American Conference Championship, Feb. 20. The Eagles have 728 points, giving them a 271.5 point lead over the University at Buffalo.
The Eagles remain in first place after three days, racking up 728 points. UB is in second with 456.5 points while Miami is in a close third place at 455 points. Ball State sits in fourth with 213 points.
The four MAC schools are competing with teams from the Sun Belt Conference. The combined meet will be scored as one, but student-athletes and teams from each conference will be recognized separately. The top three finishers from each conference will be awarded medals and the top teams from each conference will be named their respective champion.
Senior Don Ellison (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary) started the evening off with a win in the 400 IM (3:55:05), giving him a sweep of the two IM events. Troy Esentan (Little Rock, Ark.-Central) finished runner-up, finishing in 3:58.14. Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) then won the 200 fly, hitting the wall in 48.63.
The Eagles continued their winning ways in the 200 free, sweeping the top three spots. Dan Kish (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) led the way, winning in 1:37.60. Senior Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) took second with a time of 1:39.76 while freshman Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) placed third (1:40.15).
EMU then took the top two places in the 100 breast, led by Scott Murphy (Houston, Tex.-Cypress), who won in a time of 56.93. Senior Adam Wohl (Sandusky, Ohio-Perkins) finished runner-up, finishing in 57.11.
On the springboard, the Eagles had a duo of divers place, led by Matt Guinan's (Victor, N.Y.-Victor) fourth place finish. The senior diver compiled a score of 304.60 on the one-meter board. Junior Mitch Kellerman (Erlanger, Ky.-St. Henry's) was right behind Guinan with a score of 294.25 to give him fifth place honors.
The Eagles ended the evening by winning the 400 medley relay. The team of Alan Duski (Zagreb, Croatia-Sports), Ellison, Fulkerson and Roe finished the relay in 3:19.71. The same quartet captured the 200 medley relay during the first day of the Championship.
The Championship meet will conclude tomorrow, Feb. 21, with the 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay scheduled.
