NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Behind two first place finishes, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championship, Feb. 18. The Eagles are looking for their third consecutive MAC title.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Behind two first place finishes, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championship, Feb. 18. The Eagles are looking for their third consecutive MAC title.
The Eagles have 162 points after the first three events to put them in second place behind Miami University, which has 180 points. The University at Buffalo sits in third place with 128 points while Ball State rounds out the MAC schools with 86 points.
The four MAC schools are competing with teams from the Sun Belt Conference. The combined meet will be scored as one, but student-athletes and teams from each conference will be recognized separately. The top three finishers from each conference will be awarded medals and the top teams from each conference will be named their respective champion.
The 200 medley relay team of Alan Duski (Zagreb, Croatia-Sports), Donald Ellison (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary), Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) and Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) hit the wall in 1:30.19 to give the Eagles their first win of the evening.
EMU then had a duo of divers place, led by senior Matt Guinan's (Victor, N.Y.-Victor Central) fourth place finish with a score of 325.65 while Mitch Kellerman (Erlanger, Ky.-St. Henry) placed sixth with a score of 279.95.
The Eagles concluded the first day's action with a win in the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Ellison, Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central) and Dan Kish (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) finished with a time of 6:36.36, securing another win for the Green and White.
The Championship meet will continue tomorrow, Feb. 19, with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 free relay events scheduled.
