PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – In a matchup of undefeated 4-0 teams, it was the Owls of Temple University who were victorious, 64-46, in a Tuesday, Nov. 24, matchup between Temple and Eastern Michigan University here at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The game capped off a three-game road trip for EMU which saw the team notch victories at Siena College, Nov. 20, and Niagara University, Nov. 22, prior to its Tuesday loss.
A slow start haunted the Eagles, as they were only able to notch 17 points in the opening stanza, while Temple jumped out to a 32-17 halftime advantage.
Much like the first half, the Eagles also started flat in the second half, allowing the Owls to push their lead to 48-22 on a layup by Jasmine Stone with 15:39 still showing on the clock. The 27-point deficit proved to be too difficult for the Eagles to overcome, as they would never get closer than 18.
Junior guard Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) paced EMU with 15 points and nine boards, while freshman forward Chenise Miller (Oak Park, Mich.-West Bloomfield) scored fived and grabbed six rebounds. Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) chipped in with nine points, and Lindsey Mahone (Corpus Christi, Texas-Mary Carroll) also had six points and five caroms.
Four Temple players reached double digits in points, led by Shaqwedia Wallace with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kristen McCarthy poured in 12 and Marli Bennett and Stone added 11 points apiece.
Eastern starting forward, sophomore Paige Redditt (Kansas City, Mo.-Belton), only played eight minutes in the game as she has been hobbled by a foot injury which she re-aggravated during the game against Siena. The Eagles shot just 23.3 percent (14-for-60) from the field, but they were able to force 19 Temple turnovers. The loss drops Eastern to 4-1 on the season.
Following the Thanksgiving break, the Eagles return to action versus Missouri State University Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Convocation Center. Eastern Michigan and Missouri State have never met on the hardwood prior to Sunday's scheduled contest. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m. with Eagle All-Access providing both audio and video coverage.
