FOR THE 34TH TIME: The 2009-10 season marks the 34th in Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving history. The program was started in 1976 under Head Coach Mike Cook who led the Eagles to a 5-3-1 mark in their inaugural year. EMU has had eight coaches throughout the years, with Peter Linn taking over in 2004. As women's coach, Linn has helped the Eagles to two Mid-American Conference Championships while boasting a 44-16 overall record and a 31-12 MAC mark in now his sixth season.

SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS: Purdue University enters this weekend with a 3-0 overall record and coming off a 156-144 win over Northwestern in its first Big Ten Conference meet of the season. In that meet last Saturday, Casey Matthews posted a score of 365.4 in the three-meter dive, a Holloway Pool record on the campus of Purdue. Caitlin Hamilton broke a 14-year old Purdue freshman record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:57.11. The Boilermakers have picked up wins against Miami and Notre Dame this season as well, making it their best start in four years and having already surpassed last season's dual meet win total.

LAST TIME OUT: Eastern Michigan captured its third win of the season and evened its Mid-American Conference record at 2-2 with a 158-142 dual meet win over Akron on the road last Saturday. The Eagles saw stellar performances from several athletes. Briana Emig took home first place finishes in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races as well as a second place finish in the 200 free. Sarah Kowalski made it a near perfect day for Eagles getting to the top of the podium in freestyle events with two wins in the 50 and 100 free. Danielle Hulvey placed first in the one meter dive with Lesley Vizurraga coming in two places behind. Vizurraga also turned in a second place finish in the three-meter dive. Samantha Nameth and Elisa Torres were first and second, respectively, in the 100 butterfly as well.

MAKING A NAME FOR HERSELF: Emig had a very impressive pair of meets last weekend, turning in five first place finishes and one second place as the Eagles went 1-1 in dual meets. In addition to her success last Saturday at Akron, Emig won the 200, 500 and 1,000 Freestyle races in a dual meet at Buffalo the night before. Her 1,000 Freestyle (10:18.67) time on Saturday is fourth-fastest in the MAC this season and she holds the fastest time in the 500 Freestyle (4:56.52).
