UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team picked up another top-five finish Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, at the Nittany Lion Invitational with a final round 315 on the par-72, 6,300-yard Penn State Blue Course. The Eagles' two-day total of 927 (306-306-315) was tied for third place with Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan University.
Rollins College took home the team title with a score of 909 (+45), while Emily Ransone of Penn State University earned medalist honors with a score of 218 (+2).
Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) picked up her fifth career top-five showing with a 54-hole mark of 221 (73-73-75). This marks the fifth consecutive tournament the Lake Orion, Mich. native has finished inside the top 10 for the Eagles. Her total of 221 is also just one stroke off the pace of her career-low for a 54-hole tournament at 220.
Freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) finished tied for ninth place with a 228 (73-77-78). Junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls Texas-Tech Univ.) recorded a 234 (77-77-80) for 16th place and freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) managed a 244 (83-79-82) for a tie for 54th. Junior Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) finished tied for 79th with a 257 (85-86-86). Playing as an individual, senior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) fired a 235 (81-76-78) for 23rd.
The Eagles are in action Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12-13, at the Mid-American Conference at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Ind. It is the site of the 2010 MAC Championships hosted by the University of Toledo, April 23-25, 2010.
