– The Eastern Michigan women's soccer team broke Central Michigan's shutout streak and clinched the No. 2 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 1-1 tie to the Chippewas Thursday, Oct. 29 at Scicluna Field.

In a very physical match that featured 27 combined fouls, the Eagles and Chippewas battled back and forth for 110 minutes, each posting a first half goal and nothing more. The draw was the Eagles' sixth of the season, eclipsing last season's record of five.

Paige Sheridan got EMU on the board early with her third goal of the season in the 11th minute. The sophomore gathered a deflection and ripped a shot from the top of the box, 23 yards out. It caught the crossbar in the top left corner and caromed into the goal, snapping the Chipps' 13-game shutout streak spanning over 1,238 minutes without allowing a goal. It was also the first goal allowed by CMU to a MAC opponent.

It didn't take long for Central to answer and even the match with a score in the 40th minute. Claire Horton netted her first goal of the year with a one touch inside the six-yard box that stemmed from a head flick by Bailey Brandon off a solid corner service by Valerie Prause.

The Eagles showed good possession of the ball throughout the match which led to 21 shots, 13 of which landed on goal. CMU goalkeeper, Shay Mannino, was challenged early and often, stopping 12 shots in the match while EMU keeper, Maggie Manville also lived up to the task by denying the Chipps six times.

Central, who came into the game having already clinched the MAC regular season title, out-shot the Eagles 24-21 and earned four corners to the Eagles' one. Deana Kinter led the Green and White with five shots and three on goal. Chelsea Detrick and Stephanie Janssens added three shots apiece as well.

Eastern will host seventh-seeded Kent State while Central will host eighth-seeded Western Michigan in the first round of the MAC Tournament which begins Sunday, Nov. 1. The Eagles have defeated the Golden Flashes once this year at home by a score of 1-0 back on Oct. 4. Kickoff for Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m.
