Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Campaign with a Third Place Showing

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team capped off a successful fall season with a third place showing at the Ross Resorts Invitational on the par-72, 6,114-yard Mid Pines Golf Course. Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) led the way for the Eagles, firing a nine-over par 225 (74-73-78) to finish tied for fourth place. The top 5 showing was Peter's third of the fall and marked her sixth career top five finish and 11th career top 10 showing.
Rollins College, the third ranked team in Division II, shot a final round 296 under cool, cloudy and sometimes misting condition Tuesday, Oct. 27 for a 54-hole score of 897 strokes for first place. Sunshine State Conference rival, top ranked Nova Southeastern finished seven shots back with a score of 904 (304-298-302) while opening round co-leader Eastern Michigan was third with a 917 (300-308-309). Georgetown (314-308-312=934) was fourth while Akron was fifth (318-306-309=935).
Freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) tied for eighth place with a 229 (75-77-77). Junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls Texas-Tech Univ.) recorded a 232 (75-79-78) for 13th place and freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) managed a 234 (76-82-76) for a tie for 17th. Senior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) was tied for 24th with a 239 (80-79-80). Playing as an individual, junior Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) fired a 239 (79-78-82) and was tied for 24th.
Eastern Michigan will return to action when it opens its spring schedule Feb. 14-16, 2010 at the Qdoba Collegiate Invitational in Miami, Fla.
