YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan women's soccer team will gear up for two big Mid-American Conference matches this weekend in its final regular season road trip in 2009. The Eagles will head down I-94 to take on Western Michigan Friday night before taking on Northern Illinois Sunday.

Friday's match in Kalamazoo is slated for 3 p.m. The Eagles have defeated the Broncos in two straight matches to date. On Sunday, EMU will head down to Dekalb, Ill. to battle the Huskies, who enter the weekend seeking their first MAC win of the season. Live stats will be available for Sunday's match which will begin at 1 p.m. local time.

--

ABOUT THE BRONCOS: Western Michigan enters Friday's match with a 5-6-2 overall record with a 2-3-1 mark in conference play. Currently in seventh place in the MAC, the Broncos are clinging to one of the final postseason spots with five matches left to play. They have dropped two of their last three matches which includes a 2-2 draw at Kent State last Sunday. Stephanie Skowneski leads the team in scoring with seven points (3 G, 1 A). Nikolette Rivera also has three goals on the season. The Broncos' goal differential is even, scoring 16 goals while allowing the same amount to opponents. Julia Francy and Sarah Phillips have shared time in goal, splitting 13 starts between them and shutting out three opponents. Suzie Grech is currently serving as the interim head coach after spending two seasons as assistant.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Northern Illinois is one of two teams still seeking its first MAC win of the year. After drawing even with Bowling Green and Toledo in their first two MAC contests, the Huskies have gone on to lose their last four in a row, most recently to Kent State and Buffalo on the road. Lisa Maier and Kim Schmitt lead the team with two goals apiece. NIU has scored just 10 goals on the year while allowing 14 through 14 games. Lindsey Curnock has been solid in goal, and despite not having the record to show for it, has a goals against average of 0.96. Carrie Barker is in her second season as head coach of the Huskies after going 9-6-5 overall, 5-4-2 in the MAC in her first year.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles split a pair of Mid-American Conference games at home over the weekend, falling to Miami in a Friday thriller before defeating Ball State Sunday, Oct. 11. EMU surrendered a 30th minute goal to the Redhawks and never found the equalizer despite out-shooting them 20-18. Miami's goal was aided a bit by the wet turf caused by the non-stop rainfall throughout the game that led to two defenders slipping before Miami captialized with the match's lone goal. In Sunday's contest, Ashley Rodrigues scored twice and Paige Sheridan assisted on both as the Eagles pulled out a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

STRIKINGLY SIMILAR: So far in 2009, the Eagles sport the exact record it had through 14 games during the 2008 season at 7-3-4. The Eagles concluded the regular season with a 4-1-1 record in their final six games and cruised to the MAC Championship Game. Their final five opponents have a combined record of 31-30-8 entering play this weekend with Central Michigan and Toledo being the only two opponents with above .500 records.

MUDDLED MAC STANDINGS: After Sunday's slate of games, the Eagles were one of five teams sporting three wins on the season with three others at two wins below them. Central Michigan leads everyone by great lengths as they moved to 6-0-0 in conference play. The top eight teams qualify for the MAC Tournament while first round home games are awarded to the top four seeds.  With five regular season conference games left to play, the Eagles sit in a second place tie with Ohio.

LEADING THE MAC: Through 14 games this season, the Eagles sit atop the Mid-American Conference in total shots (235) and shots per game (16.9), edging Central Michigan by three shots in the same number of games. EMU leads in total saves (93) and saves per game (6.64) as well. Mona Budani has recorded 50 saves in seven starts while Maggie Manville has stopped 43 shots in seven starts. Both pace the conference in save percentage with Manville leading the  way at 91.5 percent clip. Eastern is second in the league in shutouts with seven. Central Michigan leads the MAC with 11 shutouts and is riding an impressive nine-game shutout heading into the weekend.
