Women's Golf Posts Late Charge at Duramed MAC Preview

EMU cards a 305 to charge within two-stokes of tournament winner Ball State

FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team fired the lowest round of the day 305 to charge into second place at the Duramed Mid-American Conference Preview Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 13, here at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club. The Green and White finished with a two-day mark of 935 (311-319-305) just behind Ball State University, which won the tournament title at 933 (313-305-315).

Eight of the nine schools in the MAC that offer women's golf as a varsity sport competed on the course that will host the 2010 MAC Championships this spring, April 23-25, 2010. Behind BSU and EMU, Akron finished third, Western Michigan tied for sixth, Toledo placed eighth, Northern Illinois finished 12th, Bowling Green placed 14th and Ohio rounded it out in 15th.

Freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) notched tied for seventh place with a with a 54-hole total of 231 (77-79-75) for her third career top 10 finish. She was followed closely in 10th by senior Majorie Thuot (Joliette, Quebec-Therese-Martin) with a 232 (80-78-74). Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) recorded rounds of 79, 79 and 79 for a 235 and a tie for 17th place. Rounding out the lineup was Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech) and Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) with a 242 and a 250, respectively.

Competing as an individual, Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) tied for 50th with a 246 (83-79-84).

Head Coach Sandy Wagner's crew closes out the fall campaign Oct. 26-27 at the Ross Resorts Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C.
