FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in a tie for second place and just one shot behind leader, University of Akron, after one full round of play at the Duramed Mid-American Conference Preview Tournament at Hawthorns Golf & Country Club Monday, Oct. 12.
The Eagles, led by Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls), Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) and Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) are even with Western Michigan with a one round team score of 311. Each of the aforementioned individuals is tied for 10th place after shooting first round scores of five-over 77's on the par-72 course, which will play host to the MAC Championships, April 23-25, 2010.
Taming the course with opening-round 74's was Austin McDermaid of Oakland and Kristen Hill of Akron, who lead the field by one stroke.
Eastern's Majorie Thuot (Joliette, Quebec-Therese-Martin) shot an eight-over 80 while Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) and Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) finished 11-over and 15-over, respectively.
Round two was suspended due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning.
