Men's Golf Clings To One Shot Lead With 18 Holes Remaining

AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished round two of the Firestone Invitational with a one stroke lead over St. Mary's-California Monday, Oct. 12. The Eagles were led by Marty Jeppesen's (Saline, Mich.-Saline) two-round, second place individual score of four-under 140 on the par-72 course.
Western Carolina's Ricky Stout shot a two-round score of 139 to lead Jeppesen by a mere stroke following a second round 71 which proved to be the difference between the two after day one. Three of Jeppesen's teammates also finished in the top-20 and sit no more than seven shots back with one round left to play.
Eastern's Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) and Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) turned in scores of 146 after two rounds while Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) finished just one shot behind them with a 147. Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) turned in a score of 151 to round out the Eagles in the first two rounds.
In the team standings, aside from St. Mary's who trails by just one stroke, EMU lead Michigan State (+9) by nine strokes and Kentucky (+13) by thirteen.
Teams will play the third and final round of the tournament beginning Tuesday morning.
