YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After a week on the road, the Eastern Michigan University football team returns home Saturday, Oct. 17, to host Mid-American Conference foe Kent State University. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday's game is also Band Day with 10 local high school bands in attendance for a special pre-game and halftime performance.
EMU VS. KENT STATE: Eastern Michigan and Kent State will be meeting for the first time since the 2006 season when the Golden Flashes recorded a 14-6 victory over the Eagles in a game played, Nov, 17, in Kent, Ohio. The series remains close with KSU holding a 14-13 edge. The series started in 1973 when Kent State notched a 34-20 victory, Oct. 20. EMU has an 8-5 lead in the series in games played in Ypsilanti, Mich. while KSU has a 9-5 advantage in Kent, Ohio contests. The Eagles won the last matchup in Ypsilanti, recording a 27-20 win, Oct. 1, 2005.
BAND DAY SET: The EMU-Kent State game will have a 4 p.m. start and the special event is Band Day with 10 area high school bands joining the EMU Marching Band for a halftime show.
McMAHON AND GILLETT BOTH SEE ACTION AT CMU: EMU used both Kyle McMahon (Rochester Hills, Mich.-Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) and Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde) at quarterback in last week's game at Central Michigan. McMahon earned the start and completed 8-of-14 passes for 76 yards. Gillett completed 9-of-18 passes for 51 yards. Both signal callers were sacked once.
WELCH SETS CAREER BEST: EMU redshirt sophomore Corey Welch (Akron, Ohio-Green) turned in the most productive offensive output of his career last weekend, Oct. 10, at Central Michigan. Against the Chips Welch ran for a career-high 81 yards on 12 rushes and also recorded the first touchdown of his career on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter to notch EMU's lone touchdown.
