YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team dropped a Mid-American Conference cross-divisional match-up today, Jan. 24, at the Convocation Center, as the Falcons of Bowling Green State University handed the Eagles a 69-55 loss.
The loss puts EMU at 4-14 (0-6) this season, while BGSU improves to 17-2 (6-0 MAC) with the victory.
Despite winning the battle on the boards, 41-40, the Eagles could not find a way to stop the Falcons' hot shooting, as BGSU shot 44 percent from the field (22-of-40) in the win.
Sophomore guard Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) had a team-high 14 points for EMU, while Niki McCoy had a game-best 18 points for the Falcons.
The Eagles got down early, as BGSU went on an 18-6 run in the first 10 minutes of the game to take a commanding lead. At the half, EMU found itself down, 34-18, as the Falcons shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the field, while the Eagles shot just 19 percent (5-of-27) from the field.
The Falcons went up by as many as 20 points in the second half, as a Lauren Prochaska lay-up with 11:06 remaining in the game put the Eagles down, 50-30. The Eagles managed to pull within 13 points with 4:40 remaining with a 3-pointer by junior guard Mary Lawson (Alexandria, Va.-West Potomac), but BGSU managed to keep EMU at arm's length for the remainder of the contest to seal the victory.
The Eagles built their rebound edge with big 19-10 advantage on the offensive glass, but EMU shot just 26 percent (16-of-62) from the field in the loss.
The Eagles will be idle during the week before heading back into action Saturday, Jan. 31, when they head to Kent, Ohio for a Mid-American Conference cross-division match-up with the Golden Flashes of Kent State University at 2 p.m. KSU has a 33-16 all-time mark against EMU, but the Eagles claimed last year's meeting, rolling to a 71-59 victory over the Golden Flashes on Feb. 2, 2008 at home in the Convocation Center.
