KENT, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team struggled versus Kent State University, falling 84-52 Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action Saturday, Jan. 31, here at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
The Eagles started out on a strong note, taking a 6-5 lead in the early going, but poor shooting proved to be the difference the rest of the way as the Eagles made just 17-of-51 field-goal attempts (33.3 percent) in the game. Kent State connected on 30-of-51 attempts for 58.8 percent. Turnovers plagued both sides, as the teams combined for 51 (EMU 28, KSU 23).
With the loss the Eagles the Eagles drop to 4-15 overall and 0-7 in the conference. On the flipside, the Golden Flashes moved to 15-4 (4-3 MAC).
Sophomore Sydney Huntley-Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio-Purcell Marian) was the only Eagle to reach double digits in points with 17 to go along with her four assists. Sophomore Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth,Ohio-Wadsworth) was limited to just nine points on 2-of-9 shooting.
Six Flashes notched double figure points led byAnna Kowalska with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Chenel Harris finished with 14, Yoshica Spears had 12, Ashley Harkins added 11 and Rachel Bennett and Jamilah Humes both had 10.
Eastern Michigan returns home Wednesday evening, Feb. 4, for a 7 p.m. title versus Ohio University. The contest marks the 48th meeting between the Bobcats and Eagles, who first met during the 1980-81 season. Ohio leads the series, 29-19, with the schools splitting last year's season series. The Eagles posted a 62-56 victory in Athens, Ohio, Feb. 9, 2008, but the Bobcats got the better of the Eagles in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals, 76-62, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, March 11, 2008.
