FOR THE 33RD TIME: The 2008-09 season marks the 33rd season of Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving. The program was started in 1976 under head Mike Cook with the Eagles going 5-3-1 in the inaugural year. EMU has had eight coaches throughout the years, with Peter Linn taking over in 2004. As women's coach, Linn has helped the Eagles to two Mid-American Conference Championships while boasting a 38-12 overall record and a 27-9 MAC mark in four years.
EAGLES RETURN HOME TO HOST WAYNE STATE: After spending some time in Florida for training and then traveling to take on Oakland University (Jan. 10), the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team returns home to Jones Natatorium to take on Wayne State University, Friday, Jan. 23. It is the first home meet for the Eagles since they hosted the EMU Invitational, Dec. 5-6. The Eagles are a perfect 5-0 all-time versus the Warriors, who come into the meet ranked as the top team in Division II. Last season, EMU came away with a 137-97 win in the first meet of the season.
CONFERENCE ACTION RETURNS: After going over two months in between conference meets, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team returns to conference action this weekend, traveling to Ball State University to take on the Cardinals. The Eagles have won the past four meets against BSU, last falling to the Cardinals during the 2002-03 season.
MAC PICTURE: With three meets remaining against MAC opponents, the Eagles are 3-1 in conference action, which places them at the top of the conference. EMU has only lost to Toledo while every other school has at least two losses on the year. Toledo, Ohio and Buffalo come in at 2-2 while Ball State, Bowling Green and Akron are all 1-3.
LAST TIME OUT: The Eastern Michigan University dropped a close, 145-155 decision to Oakland University in the first action of the new year. The Eagles won seven events on the afternoon, but were unable to come away with the overall victory. It was the first time since the 2004-05 season that OU defeated EMU.
STAY LIVE WITH THE EAGLES: A new feature for the 2008-09 season will be the addition of live meet scoring for all home meets at Jones Natatorium. Go to EMUEagles.com to access the live scoring.
