STATESBORO, Ga. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the Bash in the Boro volleyball tournament over host Georgia Southern University, 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 15-10), Saturday afternoon at Hanner Fieldhouse.

EMU swept all three matches in the tournament to even its record at 5-5. GSU also stands at 5-5 on the season.

EMU senior outside hitter Jill Wolosiansky (Uniontown, Ohio-Green) led the Eagles with a double-double, tallying 11 kills and 10 digs en route to being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. On the weekend, Wolosiansky tallied 2.42 kills, 1.83 digs and 0.83 blocks per set for the Eagles.

Junior Victoria Randolph (Cincinnati, Ohio-Mount Notre Dame) also recorded 11 kills to go along with sophomore Jennifer Swartz’s (Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) 10 kills. Junior libero Kim Jarzynka (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Baldwin) had a match-high 28 digs.

For Georgia Southern, Bethany Sanford blasted 19 kills and dug 12 balls on the afternoon to lead the homestanding Eagles. Lauren Claybaugh notched eight put-a-ways and five block assists in a losing effort.

The Eagles of Georgia Southern held Eastern Michigan to a negative hitting percentage (-.003) through the first three sets but EMU hit .228 in the final two sets to complete their rally. Eastern Michigan came back from a 19-15 deficit in set four to post a 25-23 victory and force a deciding final frame.

In the finale, EMU jumped out to an early 5-4 edge before GSU knotted the score at 7-7. From that point on it was all in favor of the team wearing Green and White, as EMU would roll off eight of the final 11 points to cruise to the 15-10 victory.

Eastern Michigan looks to run its winning streak to five straight matches Tuesday, Sept. 16, when it hosts IPFW in a non-conference tilt at the Convocation Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
