YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped a close match to the Cardinals of Ball State University, 3-1 (26-28, 25-20, 20-25, 17-25), Friday evening, Oct. 31 in Mid-American Conference action here at the Convocation Center.

The Eagles fall to 9-17 (3-8 MAC) with the loss and remain winless all-time on Halloween (0-6). On the flipside, the Cardinals improve to 11-15 (6-5 MAC) with the win.

Sophomore Jennifer Swartz (Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) had a solid performance for the Eagles on Halloween, as she tallied a team-high 13 kills and hit a team-best .281 in the setback.

The two teams went point-for-point in the evening’s opening set, eventually leading to a 26-all tie. The Cardinals would eventually rally late in the set for two points, as a kill by Elaina Kakatolis and an error by the Eagles led to a 28-26 Ball State victory.

The Eagles bounced back in the second set to make it a 1-1 match, as junior Victoria Randolph (Cincinnati, Ohio-Mount Notre Dame) tallied four kills, while senior Jill Wolosiansky (Uniontown, Ohio-Green) and Swartz each tallied three kills in the set to lead the Eagles to a 25-20 win. Wolosiansky finished with 10 kills, hitting .259 in the match, while Randolph tallied eight kills and 13 digs for the Eagles.

Swartz would continue her solid night in the third set of the night, leading all players with seven kills and hitting .778 in the set. However, the Cardinals would capitalize on seven EMU errors to claim a 25-20 win in the set, taking a 2-1 advantage. Ball State would seal the victory in the fourth set, claiming a 25-17 win to leave Ypsilanti with the win.

Freshman Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) tallied a team-high 33 assists in the loss, while junior Kim Jarzynk (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Baldwin) led the Eagles with 18 digs.

The Eagles will be back in action again tomorrow afternoon, Nov. 1, as the Rockets from the University of Toledo invade the Convocation Center for a 3 p.m. conference tilt. The two teams last met on Sept. 26, as EMU left Toledo with a 3-0 sweep.
