Junior Victoria Randolph recorded a team-high 10 kills.

YPSILANTI, Mich. The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped to 9-18 (3-9 MAC) this afternoon, Nov. 1 at the Convocation Center, as the visiting Rockets from the University of Toledo (11-14, 3-9 MAC) claimed a 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 14-25) sweep over the Eagles in a Mid-American Conference match-up.

Junior Victoria Randolph (Cincinnati, Ohio-Mount Notre Dame) tallied a team-high 10 kills (.216 hitting percentage) in the loss, while freshman Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) recorded 25 assists.

After a back and forth battle to start the day’s opening set, the Rockets took their biggest lead of the game after rallying for eight consecutive points, taking a 17-11 advantage. The resilience of the Eagles would pay off, as the team bounced back and tallied six consecutive points to knot the game at 17-all. However, the Rockets would answer the EMU comeback and claim a 25-23 victory in the opening set to take a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles came out firing in the second set, as they never trailed until the Rockets took a 13-12 advantage after an EMU error. Toledo would tally three consecutive points late in the set to take an 18-15 lead, forcing an EMU timeout. The Eagles would again have an answer for the Toledo rally, as two errors by the Rockets and a spike to the back-right corner by senior Hayvolla Leite (Paraiba, Brazil-Indian Hills C.C.) forced a Toledo timeout and tied the game at 20-all. However, the Rockets would again find a way to win at the end of the set, claiming another 25-23 victory to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

The Rockets would carry their momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 7-1 advantage and eventually completing the sweep with a 25-14 win.

The Eagles will complete their final regular season road trip of the season next week, as they play back-to-back conference tilts, beginning with Northern Illinois University Friday, Nov. 7, followed by a match against Western Michigan University Saturday, Nov. 8. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
