LAST HOME WEEKEND AN IMPORTANT ONE: This weekend’s games against Toledo (Oct. 17) and Bowling Green (Oct. 19) mark the last two regular season home games for the Eastern Michigan University soccer team. These last two contests are important ones, as the Eagles take on two of the three teams ahead of them in the conference standings. As of Oct. 13, Bowling Green is in second place with a 4-1-1 conference mark, while Toledo is in third place with a 4-2-0 record. The Eagles are right behind both teams in fourth place, sporting a 3-1-2 league record.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS: Toledo enter’s Friday’s (Oct. 17) match with a 9-4-0 overall record and a 4-2-0 mark in conference play. The Rockets are the defending MAC Tournament Champions and have been regionally ranked by SoccerBuzz Magazine this season. The Rockets have seven players who have scored multiple goals this season, led by Molly Cornwell and Ali Leak with four apiece. Vicki Traven leads the Rockets in goal, allowing only 0.56 goals a game with a 7-2-0 record.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS: Before making the trek to Ypsilanti, Bowling Green will take on MAC-leading Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant (Oct. 17). BGSU has a 9-3-3 record and a 4-1-1 MAC record this season. The Falcons have been making their mark in the second half, out-scoring their opponents 19-3 in the second frame. Offensively, Corbie Yee leads the way with five goals and two assists, while Gina Rossi has four goals and two assists on the year. Alexa Aresenault anchors the Falcon defense in goal, allowing 0.60 goals a game.

HALL HITS THE CENTURY MARK: Head coach Scott Hall picked up his 100th career win as the Eagles’ head coach, Oct. 12 in Kent, Ohio, when EMU defeated Kent State, 3-1. Hall is now only the second active MAC coach with 100 wins, joining Miami’s Bobby Kramig. The 10th year head coach now owns a record of 100-75-24 during his tenure with EMU. With Sunday’s (Oct. 12) win, it also marked the first time in program history that the Eagles have won at Kent State, as the Eagles had been winless in five prior trips.

SENIOR DAY ON SUNDAY: Sunday’s (Oct. 19) contest against Bowling Green will mark the final regular season home contest for three EMU seniors. Jessica Lathrop, Ashley Upton and Katie Zundel will all be honored before the match. Lathrop has played in 73 career games, scoring two goals and notching five assists. This season, the forward from Indianapolis has four assists, good for second on the team. Upton has played 67 games for the Eagles in her four-year career, totaling 12 points (four goals and four assists). Zundel has been a major player for the Eagles in the backfield, playing 72 games for EMU. She has 19 points in her career, scoring six goals and notching seven assists. She has three goals and two assists this season, including the game-winner against Miami (Sept. 26).

SHARING TIME IN THE BACKSTOP: Since MAC play began, head coach Scott Hall has been rotating his goalies, keeping opponents on their toes. Sophomore Maggie Manville has started four of the MAC games, while Mona Budani has started the other two. Budani got the nod against Western Michigan (Oct. 3) and Buffalo (Oct. 10), allowing only one goal to the Bulls en route to the 1-1 double overtime tie. Manville has started the other four games, going 2-1-1 with two shutouts. Together, the two keepers have compiled a 0.78 goals against average, allowing only five goals in six games against MAC foes.

SPREADING THE WEALTH: The Eagles have become a very balanced offensive team, as 13 players have recorded points this season. Nine players have scored goals, while another four have at least contributed an assist. Freshman Chelsea Detrick leads the way with 10 goals on the year, with Katie Lozar chipping in four. Stephanie Janssens leads the team with six assists, while Jessica Lathrop has four on the year.

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION AGAINST THE REDHAWKS: When the Eagles scored five goals against Miami (Sept. 26), it marked the highest offensive output since EMU topped Buffalo, 7-1, Oct. 19, 2007. Before last year, the last time the Eagles hit the five-goal plateau was a 6-1 win at Akron, Oct. 14, 2001.

OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: With last weekend’s 5-0 win against Miami (Sept. 26), the Eagles have won the past four MAC openers. Since MAC play started in 1997, EMU is 8-2-1 in conference openers. The Eagles are also unbeaten in the past seven MAC openers, last falling to Toledo (Sept. 7, 2001), 2-1.

ROAD TRIP WONDERS: During its seven-game non-conference road trip, the Eagles did not get the memo that playing on the road is supposed to be tough. EMU went 4-2-1, including winning the last three contests. The Eagles dropped a tough 1-0 decision to then-No. 28 Miami and allowed only Michigan State to score more than one goal on the trip, on the way to out-scoring their opponents, 11-7.

DETRICK NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Freshman Chelsea Detrick was selected the MAC Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to wins at Indiana State (Sept. 19) and IUPUI (Sept. 21). It was the first time in her career that she has ever won the award and the first time since the 2005 season that an Eagle has won the weekly award. The freshman scored four of EMU’s five goals, including both game-winners to push the Eagles’ record to 5-2-2. Against IUPUI, her last-second cross deflected off an IUPUI defender into an open goal, securing a 2-1 win in regulation for the Eagles. On the year, Detrick leads the Eagles in points (14), goals (seven) and game-winners (two). She has three multi-goal games on the year, scoring two goals against Eastern Illinois (Sept. 7), Indiana State and IUPUI.

IN A GIVING MOOD: Junior forward Ashley Rodrigues was in a sharing mood when the Green and White defeated Eastern Illinois (Sept. 7). She dished out three assists on the afternoon, tying the single-game mark, previously set by Jodi Coyle against Kent State, Sept. 13, 1997. Rodrigues now holds the single game marks for assists in a game (3), goals in a game (3) and points in a game (7).

SCORING IN SPADES: Freshman Chelsea Detrick barely had time to celebrate her goal against Eastern Illinois before scoring another one just three minutes later. Detrick scored her first goal of the game off a cross from Ashley Rodrigues, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The freshman midfielder found the back of the net again just 3:09 later, off another cross from Rodrigues and Jessica Lathrop.

KINTER BACK TO SCORING WAYS: Junior Deana Kinter has found her scoring touch again. After leading the team in scoring and goals during her freshman season in 2006, she did not score last season, playing predominately in the backfield. Through seven games this year, Kinter has already notched three goals, including a dramatic game-tying goal against Michigan with just :33 seconds remaining.
