Eagles Take on Falcons in First Round Action

CLEVELAND, Ohio — First round action for the Mid-American Conference Tournament was announced by the conference office today, Nov. 2. Eight teams have qualified for post-season action, with the top four seeds hosting first-round action against the 5-8 seeds.

Eastern Michigan enters this year’s tournament as the No. 5 seed and will travel to No. 4 Bowling Green, Sunday, Nov. 4. The Eagles were tied for third place entering the regular season finale against Central Michigan and lost a 2-1 decision. The Eagles must go on the road to face the Falcons. Bowling Green finished with a 6-5 MAC mark while EMU ended the season with a 5-4-2 league record. EMU defeated BGSU during the 2007 season, 2-0 Oct. 7.

No. 1 seed Ball State finished the season with a 9-1-1 conference mark and a second consecutive regular-season championship. The Cardinals will take on No. 8 Miami in Muncie, Ind., who upset them 2-1 in the first round of last year’s tournament.

Defending tournament champion Toledo is the No. 2 seed this year after posting an 8-3 conference record and will host No. 7 Kent State. Entering the tournament at the No. 3 spot is Northern Illinois, which finished with a 6-3-2 conference record in conference play. In 2006, the Huskies lost to Toledo in the championship game. NIU will host No. 6 Ohio in opening round action.

First-round matches will be played Sunday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m. Second round semi-final matches will be played at the highest remaining seed’s home field, Friday, Nov. 9, with times to be announced. The championship match will take place, Sunday, Nov. 11.
