SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
Central Michigan enters this week’s match with the Green and White in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Most recently, the Chippewas lost to Western Michigan, 1-0, Sunday, Oct. 28, in Kalamazoo. Althoguh CMU is mathematically eliminated from the Mid-American Conference post-season tournament, a battle with an in-state rival always brings the best from each team.

SEASON FINALE: With the season finale this week, an extra win could mean a higher seed, and EMU has posted 11 such wins in the last home game of the regular season against just one loss. Thursday’s contest against Central Michigan will mark just the second regular season home game for EMU in the month of November; the first, a 3-1 victory over Miami back in 2001.

RISING STARS: The Green and White offense has been lead by a score of underclassmen this season. Sophomores Ashley Rodrigues and Maggie Christensen, and freshman Stephanie Janssens sit atop the points standings for EMU with 16, 13 and 12 points tallied respectively. For the year, 18 of 24 goals scored have come at the foot of an underclassmen.

MANVILLE STINGY IN NET: With a 1-0 shutout victory over Western Michigan, freshman Maggie Manville recorded her sixth shutout on the season. Manville is sporting a meager 0.93 goals against average for the Green and White and has allowed just three goals in the past seven games.

98 DEGREES AND RISING: The Eagles are currently 4-2-2 in the month of October. In their four wins, they have netted 11 goals, while giving up just one. Currently, the Green and White hold the a tie in the number three slot in the Mid-American Conference standings, which if the tournament started today would mean a first-round home game at Scicluna Field.

LUCKY NUMBER 7: The Eagles posted a 7-1 victory over Buffalo Friday, Oct. 19 at Scicluna Field. Entering the Buffalo game EMU carried just over a goal a game average. The seven goals was a season high, and the most scored by the Green and White since the 1998 season.

A-ROD BREAKS OUT:
Sophomore Ashley Rodrigues enjoyed a breakout game against Buffalo, accumulating a career high seven points in EMU’s 7-1 win. Rodrigues scored the first three goals of the match for Eastern then added an assist in the second half. With those seven points she becomes the all-time single game points leader for EMU, toping the previous record of six, and just the fourth person to record three goals in a single game.

SENIOR DAY AGAINST KENT STATE: The Eagles soccer team honored the 2007 senior class with a ceremony before Sunday’s game against Kent State. Those to be honored include, Jill Kehler, Amanda Sargent, Lindsay Hill, Sophia Naum, Emi Cummings, Samantha Beard and Sara Schiffbauer.

EXTRA FRAMES: In the month of October the Eagles have played in three double overtime games and overall has played five contests of 110 minutes on the year, posting a 0-1-4 mark. The Green and White have registered four ties on the year, the most in the history of the program and are fast approaching the record for the number of overtime games played in a season, seven, during the 2003 season.

GOAL SUPPORT NEEDED: As a team, the Eagle defense has remained strong, only allowing 1.07 goals a game. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville has posted a 1.07 goals against average and a .800 save percentage in that same span, including four shutouts. The Eagles, however, have struggled offensively, with only a 1.07 goals scored average through 14 games this season.

SCORING MEANS WINNING: The Eagles are a perfect 5-0 this season when scoring two or more goals in a game. When the Green and White fail to register at least two goals, they are 2-6-4.

HOME IS WHERE YOU MAKE IT: The Eagles return to Ypsilanti for a four game home stretch after opening the month of October at Toledo (L, 2-1 2OT) and Bowling Green (W, 2-0). The Green and White posted ties with Akron (0-0) Friday, Oct. 12, and Ohio (1-1) Sunday, Oct. 14. This weekend EMU will square off against Buffalo and Kent State.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: The Zips enter Friday’s game coming off a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ball State and currently sit at 6-3-3 (1-2-1 MAC) on the year. Despite giving up the lone goal against Ball State, UA keeper Krystin Wilson picked up four saves, giving her 176 for her career and the number one spot on the all-time career saves list. Over the weekend, the Bobcats enjoyed a successful 3-1 rout of Miami (OH), with three different players recording goals on the day. Although Ohio only has three wins on the year overall, all three have come against Mid-American Conference foes, good for second best in the conference.

BEND IT LIKE CHRISTENSEN: Call Maggie Christensen butter because she is certainly on a roll. The standout sophomore has tallied six goals on the year, surpassing her 2006 season total of four, and has found the back of the net in three of the past four games for the Green and White.

TRIFECTA, YOU BET YA: Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville picked up the third shutout of her short career Sunday, blanking Bowling Green. Manville currently sports a 1.21 goals against average and a .770 save percentage.

SUPER SWEET SOPHOMORES: Sophomores Maggie Christensen, Katie Lozar and Ashley Rodrigues are leading the way for the Eagles offense this year. Christensen, who has tallied a team-high five goals on the year, just surpassed her season total from last year. Lozar, who has collected two goals and two assists has already surpassed her point output from a year ago. Rodrigues has two goals and three assists for the year, bettering both totals from last year.
