SENIOR DAY AGAINST KENT STATE:
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Buffalo rides a little momentum heading into Friday’s game having defeated Bowling Green, 1-0, for their first Mid-American Conference win of the season. The Bulls are lead by the trio of Andrea Vescio, Brooke McCalla and Heidi Griffiths who have each recorded four goals on the year. The Golden Flashes have won three of their last four games, with a 1-0 shutout over Toledo coming most recently. Senior Kimberly Dimitroff leads the way with five goals scored on the year.
EXTRA FRAMES: In the month of October the Eagles have played in three double overtime games and overall has played five contests of 110 minutes on the year, posting a 0-1-4 mark. The Green and White have registered four ties on the year, the most in the history of the program and are fast approaching the record for the number of overtime games played in a season, seven, during the 2003 season.
GOAL SUPPORT NEEDED: As a team, the Eagle defense has remained strong, only allowing 1.07 goals a game. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville has posted a 1.07 goals against average and a .800 save percentage in that same span, including four shutouts. The Eagles, however, have struggled offensively, with only a 1.07 goals scored average through 14 games this season.
SCORING MEANS WINNING: The Eagles are a perfect 4-0 this season when scoring two or more goals in a game. When the Green and White fail to register at least two goals, they are 0-5-4.
HOME IS WHERE YOU MAKE IT: The Eagles return to Ypsilanti for a four game home stretch after opening the month of October at Toledo (L, 2-1 2OT) and Bowling Green (W, 2-0). The Green and White posted ties with Akron (0-0) Friday, Oct. 12, and Ohio (1-1) Sunday, Oct. 14. This weekend EMU will square off against Buffalo and Kent State.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: The Zips enter Friday’s game coming off a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ball State and currently sit at 6-3-3 (1-2-1 MAC) on the year. Despite giving up the lone goal against Ball State, UA keeper Krystin Wilson picked up four saves, giving her 176 for her career and the number one spot on the all-time career saves list. Over the weekend,. the Bobcats enjoyed a successful 3-1 rout of Miami (OH), with three different players recording goals on the day. Although Ohio only has three wins on the year overall, all three have come against Mid-American Conference foes, good for second best in the conference.
BEND IT LIKE CHRISTENSEN: Call Maggie Christensen butter because she is certainly on a roll. The standout sophomore has tallied five goals on the year, surpassing her 2006 season total of four, and has found the back of the net in three of the past four games for the Green and White.
TRIFECTA, YOU BET YA: Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville picked up the third shutout of her short career Sunday, blanking Bowling Green. Manville currently sports a 1.21 goals against average and a .770 save percentage.
SUPER SWEET SOPHOMORES: Sophomores Maggie Christensen, Katie Lozar and Ashley Rodrigues are leading the way for the Eagles offense this year. Christensen, who has tallied a team-high five goals on the year, just surpassed her season total from last year. Lozar, who has collected two goals and two assists has already surpassed her point output from a year ago. Rodrigues has two goals and three assists for the year, bettering both totals from last year.
LETS GO STREAKING: The Green and White have not lost their Mid-American Conference opener six years running now with a win on the road against Miami (OH) 2-1 on September 28. The streak dates back to the 2002 season.
KEEPING IT IN THE MAC: The Eagles went to Muncie, Ind. for an afternoon match on the pitch with the Cardinals of Ball State on Sunday, Sept. 30. Last year the Eagles were able to leave Muncie with a 2-1 overtime victory over the 2006 regular season champs, handing them one of only two losses in conference play. This year was a different story, with the Cardinals coming away with a 2-0 victory.
DOUBLE THE FUN: The Eagles have played in three double overtime contests this season. The Eagles managed a tie in two of them before dropping the third against Toledo this past weekend. At UC-Irvine, the Anteaters and Eagles put on a defensive display as they drew a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes. At home against the Jaguars, EMU was able to notch a second half goal and clamp down on the Jaguar offense to even the score at 1, where the match would end after the second overtime.
LOGGING THE MILES: The Eagles rounded out the month of September with road games at Miami (OH) and Ball State, their fifth and sixth road games of the month. EMU has traveled to Indiana twice, California and will travel to Ohio, racking up nearly 3,000 miles traveled this month.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: After spending the week of Sept. 10 on the road traveling to Fort Wayne, Ind. and then a weekend trip out west to California, the Eagles returned to the state of Michigan for the week. The Green and White traveled to East Lansing Wednesday, Sept. 19 to take on Big Ten foe Michigan State, dropping the match 2-0. EMU finally returned home for the first time since Sept. 4 to host IUPUI Saturday, Sept. 23, playing to a 1-1 2OT tie. The Green and White were only scheduled to play one home game during the month of Septermber, but played two when the Detroit game was moved to Scicluna Field at the beginning of the month. The Eagles will hit the road to round out the month, traveling to Oxford, Ohio and Muncie Ind., concluding the month of September, having played six of eight away from home.
WIN, LOSE OR DRAW: The Eagles picked up one of each during the week of Sept. 10 after playing three road games. The week started off well for EMU, as they rolled past IPFW, 3-1. After allowing the first goal of the game to the Mastadons, the Eagles scored three unanswered goals by Katie Lozar, Maggie Christensen and Paige Sheridan. The Eagles headed out to California for the weekend, starting off at UC Riverside. The Green and White were not able to find the net, as they lost 2-1. Eastern finished the week recording a 2OT 0-0 tie. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville recorded her second career shutout.
