Six Eagles finish in the top 10 in the decisive victory

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- The Eastern Michigan University men’s cross country team showed why it is ranked in the top 25, as the Eagles stormed past the competition to claim first place Saturday, here at the Mel Brodt CC Invitational. The Eagles posted only 32 points during the meet, 39 points less than the second place finisher (University of Cincinnati, 71 points).
Eastern’s top individual finisher was sophomore Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc) who placed fourth overall with a time of 25:22.14 in the 8k. Other top ten finishers from the eagles were sophomore Neal Naughton (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) (fifth place, 25:33.03), senior Kevin Naughton (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) (sixth place, 25:33.04), sophomore Kyle Mena (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) (eighth, 25:43.56), sophomore R.P. White (Hillsdale, Mich.-Hillsdale) (ninth, 25:46.35) and junior Chris Baldwin (Highland Park, Mich.-Highland Park) (10th, 25:53.92).
Bowling Green’s Eddie Kipchoge was the individual winner of the event, turning in a time of 24:42.89.
The eagles will be in action again on Saturday, September 29 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. That meet will begin at 4 p.m.
