Eagles Post Strong Showing at Notre Dame Invitational

Nowitzke leads the way for EMU
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team raced to a seventh place finish Friday afternoon here at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Eagles talled 183 points while beating out 13 other competitors (183 points) including Big Ten teams Wisconsin (eighth place), Illinois (11th place) and Purdue (18th place).
The Eagles were led by senior Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.- Monroe) who finished 26th in the individual competition (24:24). Nowitzke was closely followed by sophomore Josh Perrin (Hillsdale, Mich.- Hillsdale), who placed 27th overall and just one second behind his fellow teammate (24:25).
Other top-50 finishers (165 runners total) for Eastern Michigan include sophomores Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada- Nepean) (36th, 24:40), Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.- Grand Blanc) (45th, 24:46) and David Brent (Monroe, Mich.- St. Mary's Catholic Central) (50th, 24:52).
North Carolina State University won the team event while Chris Solinsky from the University of Wisconsin won the individual honors.
The next meet for the Eagles is Saturday, October 14 at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. That meet will begin at 10 a.m.
