Senior quarterback Matt Bohnet racked up 348 total yards of offense and four touchdowns

YPSILANTI, Mich.--
The Eastern Michigan football team racked up 424 yards of total offense en route to a 31-10 non-conference victory over a visiting Louisiana Lafayette team here Saturday night in Rynearson Stadium.

The Eagles, now 1-1, were led by senior quarterback Matt Bonhet (Grand Ledge, Mich-Grand Ledge) who tallied four touchdowns (two running and two passing) with 263 yards passing and 85 yards rushing. Bohnet's two rushing touchdowns were the first of his career.

Eastern Michigan took advantage of two Louisiana Lafayette turnovers during the first 10 minutes of the game taking a 14-0 lead with the offense controlling the ball for the entire 10 minute period.

The Eagles went on to take a 24-3 lead into the halftime intermission. Both team scored third quarter touchdowns with the fourth quarter scoreless.

Bohnet finished as EMU' leading rusher and completed 26-of-36 passes for 263 yards with junior Eric Deslauriers (Gatineau, Qubec, Canada-Lennoxville Prep) catching eight balls for 94 yards and one touchdown. Senior A.J. Bennett (Delray Beach, Fla.-Atlantic Community) also caught nine passes for 94 yards with one touchdown.

Louisiana Lafayette, 0-2, was paced by junior Jerry Babb who threw for 228 yards, completing 21-0f-29 passes and rushing 12 times for 83 yards.

From a defensive standpoint, this was the first time since 1998 in which EMU held an opponent under 10 points in a game. Junior linebacker Michael Richardson (Indianapolis, Ind.-BenDavis-Harper, Ill, J.C) led the team in tackles with 14 total stops.

Eastern Michigan will travel seven miles west down Washtenaw Ave. to Ann Arbor, Mich. where they will take on the University of Michigan in a noon tilt, Saturday, 17.
