Sophomore stuffed the stat sheet in EMU’s first win over CMU in program history
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Emerson Henry, a sophomore on the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today, April 7. Henry was instrumental in helping the Eagles (8-5, 3-1 MAC) to a big home victory over rival Central Michigan University as the team tied the program record for wins in a season.
Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) stuffed the stat sheet for the Eagles as her seven points on four goals and three assists led Eastern to a win over CMU for the first time in program history. Henry, who added two ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers, tallied her first career 'double hat trick' (three goals and three assists), the first of the season for the team, and only the fourth in program history. It also marked her third hat trick of the season and her sixth of her career. Henry reached the 50-goal milestone in the win as she now has 51 in her two seasons with the Eagles and has now scored at least one goal in eight consecutive games this year with her four goals against the Chippewas tying for the 10th-highest single-game total against a MAC opponent. Additionally, she posted a career high in assists with three, surpassing the two she recorded three times prior, most recently at the University of Detroit Mercy (March 19).
The honor is the first of Henry's career and made her the 10th player in program history to earn a weekly honor from the MAC. The second offensive honoree this season along with Kelsea Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Henry is the sixth different EMU player to garner a weekly offensive award with the Eagles having collected 11 since the start of the 2023 season. All told, her award is the 24th earned in program history with six defensive and seven goalkeeper awards attained as well.
In 2026, Henry and Dague are two of the four Eagles that have been honored, joining Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) and Maddy Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson). Dague (offense), Low (defense), and Porter (goalkeeper) swept the three categories, Feb. 17, with Porter adding three more goalkeeper awards to the total, including the previous three ahead of this week's announcement.
Henry and the Eagles return to action Saturday, April 11, with a massive MAC match-up with the University of Massachusetts, the current leader in the league standings. The first meeting between the two programs is set for 12 p.m. at Scicluna Field with the game being streamed live on ESPN+.
