Eastern is now 1-2 all-time against the Zips in one-goal games
AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- In what has become a common occurrence in the series, the lacrosse game between Eastern Michigan University and the University of Akron was decided by one goal with this year's meeting going to the host Zips, 10-9, March 28, at InfoCision Stadium in Akron, Ohio. The Eagles (7-5, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) have played five games in their series with the Zips (8-3, 3-0 MAC) with three of those games decided by one goal, including both games played in Akron.
How It Happened
Eastern jumped on top quickly as Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) won the opening draw control and, after working the ball around, Henry fed a pass to Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek), who scored at 14:14. The Eagles doubled their advantage at 10:08 as Kelsea Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) found Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) open in the middle for her first of the day. After an Akron goal at 8:06, Eastern would go on to score the next three goals, starting with Henry netting off a pass from Kendall Nagle (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) at 5:32. Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) followed at 4:47 as Grollman found her cutting through the middle and one-timed a pass into the goal for a 4-1 lead. The final goal started on the defensive end where Maddy Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) saved a free-position chance before sending a long pass down field that was sent to Emma Reichert (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), who drove through traffic and scored with 2:44 to play for a 5-1 lead through one quarter of play.
The second quarter belonged to the hosts as the Zips scored the only three goals of the stanza to cut the Eastern advantage to 5-4 at the break. With under one minute to play, Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) reached another career milestone as she won the draw control to secure the 250th of her career. Following intermission, Dague scored off a feed from Grollman just 37 seconds into the half before UA answered at 13:06. Blackwell netted a goal with 12:39 to play to reclaim a two-goal lead, but the Zips would close the quarter on a three-goal run to take an 8-7 lead with one quarter to play.
In the final stanza, Eastern tied the score at 11:34 as Reichert scored her second of the game, marking the fifth game this season she has scored two goals. The Zips scored the next two goals to take a 10-8 lead with 3:43 to play with the Eagles pulling one back with 1:11 to play as Grollman found Roya Khaleeli (Rancho Palo Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) in the middle for the goal. Despite losing the ensuing draw control, the defense forced a turnover and pushed the ball down the field. The offense worked the ball inside but was unable to get a clean shot off as the clock ran out and the Eagles fell, 10-9.

Blackwell is the only player in EMU history to surpass 150, 200, and now 250 career draw controls. Blackwell finished the game with one point on one goal while adding three ground balls to mark the fourth time this year she has scooped at least three in a single game after having done so six total times in her first three years.
» Nine players recorded at least one point in the game with five posting multiple points. Of those five, Tracy Grollman, Kelsea Dague, Katheryn Wilson, and Emerson Henry each recorded at least one goal and one assist.
» Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) and Maddy Porter led the team with two caused turnovers each, marking the sixth and four times, respectively, each player has recorded multiple caused turnovers. » The Eagles fell to 2-3 in their series with the Zips and 1-1 when playing in Akron.
