Junior tallied 16 saves to break reach 400 for her career and break another single-game record
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – For the second consecutive week, the Mid-American Conference has named Eastern Michigan University lacrosse's Maddy Porter as the MAC Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced March 17. Porter has been instrumental in helping the Eagles to a 6-4 record and a 1-0 mark in conference play which earned her the weekly accolade for the second consecutive week, the third time this season, and the sixth time in her career.
Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) was huge for the Eagles in their 12-6 defeat of Kent State University in their MAC opener as she finished with 16 saves and four ground balls while allowing just six goals, the fewest permitted in a game this year (was seven in a 9-7 home win over Xavier University, Feb. 14). The 16 saves ranked as the fourth-highest in single-game history at EMU while breaking the record for saves in a MAC contest with the previous mark set last year at Kent State (April 13, 2025) when she halted 14 attempts.
With her 16 saves, Porter surpassed another milestone as she now has 406 saves in her career. The second player in program history to record 100 career saves, Porter is the only netminder to reach 200, 300, and now 400. Porter currently ranks second nationally in saves with 95 while ranking 10th in saves per game (9.50) and eighth in ground balls per game (3.50).
Porter has now garnered seven career honors from the MAC as she has been named the MAC Goalkeeper of the Week six times (three times each in 2025 and 2026) and was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week (April 9, 2024) before the league added a specific goalkeeper honor in 2025. Her honor this week also is the fifth of the season for the program as she joined Kelsea Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) in sweeping the three awards, Feb. 17, as Dague was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and Low was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Eastern is back in action Thursday, March 19, when the Eagles travel to Titan Field in Detroit, Mich., for a 4 p.m. MAC contest with the Titans of the University of Detroit Mercy.
