Henry Nets Career-High Five Goals in Win at Austin Peay

3/1/2026 3:56:00 PM | Lacrosse

Eastern is off to its best start in program history (5-2) following come-from-behind win

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) -- Emerson Henry scored a career-high five goals, Tracy Grollman dished out three assists to tie the program's career mark, and the defense came up big in the fourth quarter once again to push the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team to a 13-10 victory on the road at Austin Peay State University, Sunday, March 1, on Morgan Bros. Field in Clarksville, Tenn. The Eagles (5-2), who trailed by two goals early in the fourth quarter, used a five-goal run to secure the win and the program's best start while handing the Governors (3-2), in their first season of play, their first home loss in program history.

How It Happened
For the second game in a row, the Eagles scored the opening goal of the game as Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) took a pass from Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) and found the back of the next just 1:04 into the game for an early 1-0 lead. The hosts responded at the 12:03 mark to tie the game at one with the next goal not coming until 2:27 remained as Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) drove through the defense and scored to make it 2-1. The lead grew 46 seconds later as Henry bagged her second of the game before the Governors added their second with 29 seconds to play, sending the game into the second quarter with the Eagles ahead, 3-2.

The Governors quickly reclaimed the lead in the second quarter as they scored a pair of goals within the first four minutes to take a 4-3 lead. Henry responded as she made her way through traffic to score and not only tie the game at 4-4 but capture her first hat trick of the season. APSU moved back into the lead with a goal at 8:21 before the Eagles went on a three-goal run that started with Grollman taking a feed from Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) to knot the score at 5-5 before Grollman returned the favor as she found Blackwell open in front of the cage for a quick shot and goal. The Grollman-to-Blackwell play worked again as Blackwell finished off the pass with a goal to give Grollman three assists in the first half and a 7-5 EMU lead. The hosts would add a goal with 3:32 to play to send the game into the intermission with the Eagles on top, 7-6.

Following the break, the Governors tied the score at 7-7 with a goal at 9:54 before Henry scored her career-high-tying fourth goal off a pass from Blackwell to reclaim an 8-7 advantage. The hosts, however, scored twice in the final five minutes to take a 9-8 lead into the final quarter. The Governors pushed their lead to 10-8 with 14:02 to play after freshman Emma Baker (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Preparatory) replaced Maddy Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) in goal at the start of the stanza. Despite the deficit, the Eagles went on a five-goal run to close out the game and secure the win. The run began with Kyleigh Dill (Dover, Del./Dover) squeezing through the defense and firing home a shot to bring EMU to within one goal before Stella Burke (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Catholic Secondary) circled in from behind the cage and dunked home a shot to square the game at 10-10 with 9:09 to play. With 7:57 showing on the clock, Kendall Nagle (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) was awarded a free-position shot after drawing a non-releasable yellow card. She buried the shot to score the eventual game-winner as the Eagles were now ahead, 11-10.

Henry, off a pass from Burke, scored next as she posted her career-high fifth goal of the game as Eastern was still one player up with 6:25 to go before a pair of freshmen put their names on the score sheet with the final goal of the game. On that play, Christie Evans (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Secondary) took a pass from Brooke Sganga (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior) and ripped a shot into the cage with 2:28 to play to make it 13-10 and push the Eagles to 5-2 on the year for the best start in program history.

Individual Notes
» Emerson Henry scored a career-high five goals in the game for her fourth career hat trick and the most goals she has scored since netting four at home against Akron, April 20, 2025. Henry scored twice on the woman-up advantage, which tied for the third-highest total in a single game at EMU while her five total goals tied for the eighth-highest in a single contest.
» Emerson Henry finished the game with five points on five goals while adding eight draw controls in the win. Her five points tied her career high set last year against Akron (April 20, 2025) while her eight shots also were a career high, surpassing the seven attempts she recorded on three previous occasions, including at home against Xavier (Feb. 14) earlier this year.
» Tracy Grollman has continued to play the role of distributor at a high level as she finished the game with four points on one goal and three assists. Her second game of the season with a hat trick of helpers (at Marquette, Feb. 6), Grollman has now recorded three or more assists in nine career games and brought her career total to 45, which tied Avery Schwab (2023-25) for the school record. Additionally, her three helpers tied for the seventh-highest total in a single game in program history.
» Tracy Grollman finished the game with four points to mark the third time this year and the second consecutive game she has tallied four points. It also marked the 10th time in her career she has posted at least four points in a single game. Her lone goal came on the women-up advantage and marked her 10th career woman-up goal to become only the second player in program history to reach double digits in the category behind Mackenzie Blackwell, who has 37 in her career.
» Kendall Nagle scored one goal in the game, but it was a big one as helped the Eagles regain the lead late in the game. The goal would stand as the game-winning score, the first of Nagle's career.

Blackwell also added a season-high three ground balls while adding two draw controls, which brought her career total to 249.

She last tallied at least one goal in three consecutive games last year when she netted three at Presbyterian (Feb. 25), one at Gardner-Webb (Feb. 27), and one against Canisius (March 1). Her career-best is a five-game stretch during the 2024 season.
» Roya Khaleeli (Rancho Palo Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) tallied a season-high three draw controls. The total was one shy of her career high of four, which she set four times previously, including at Kent State, March 13, 2025.
» Haley Hodak (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) led the defense with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Low's totals marked her seventh consecutive game this year with at least one ground ball and one caused turnover while Hodak has tallied at least one caused turnover in four of seven games played in 2026.
» Emma Baker made her collegiate debut when she took over in goal to start the fourth quarter. The rookie made three saves while allowing just one goal to help the Eagles turn a two-goal deficit into a three-goal victory.
» Four freshmen recorded the first statistics of their collegiate careers, including two on offense and two on defense. Offensively, Christie Evans recorded her first career goal and point while Brooke Sganga tallied her first assist and point.
