YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team fell to Central Michigan University, 195.275-192.725, during the Purple Meet Sunday, Feb. 8, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. With the result, Eastern moves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference competition. The annual meet brought awareness to epilepsy while showcasing competitive routines across all four events, highlighted by a beam title from Katin Childress.
How It Happened:
Eastern opened the meet on vault and posted a 48.250 team score while placing four gymnasts inside the top 10. Kendall Landry (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) led the Eagles in the scoring lineup with a 9.700 to place fifth overall, while Abby Brushwood (State College, Pa./State College Area) and Gwendelyn Cantu (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) each scored 9.675 to tie for sixth. Macy Nihart (East Lansing, Mich./Home School) added a 9.625 in her first collegiate vault appearance to round out Eastern's scoring lineup. Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) posted a 9.725 in exhibition as Eastern stayed within range early despite Central Michigan taking the top three vault scores.
The Eagles moved to bars and recorded a team score of 47.000. Analiah Solorio (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield Senior) paced Eastern with a 9.800 to tie for fourth place and tying her career best. Keeley Kohler (Davison, Mich./Powers Catholic) followed with a 9.775 to place seventh, while Jacquelyn Patterson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) posted a 9.700 to finish ninth. Georgie Slack (Uttoxeter, England/Thomas Alleynes) added a 9.650 in exhibition. Cantu and Jaelyn Stetz (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) competed earlier in the lineup, with Stetz making her first appearance this season.
Beam proved to be Eastern's strongest event of the afternoon as the Eagles posted a 48.800 team score. Katin Childress (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) captured the event title with a 9.850. Solorio followed with a 9.800 to finish third, while Lowe added a 9.750 to tie for fourth. Landry posted a 9.725 in exhibition, and both Kohler and Patterson recorded 9.700 scores to keep Eastern stacked throughout the standings and secure multiple top finishes during the rotation.
Eastern closed the meet on floor with a 48.675 team score and another strong set of routines. Brushwood led the Eagles with a 9.825 to tie for second overall. Priya Karle (Canton, Mass./Canton) added a 9.700, and Sanai Evans (Norcross, Ga./Paul Duke STEM) posted a 9.675 in exhibition.
