The institute focuses on key attributes needed to be a head coach in modern collegiate athletics
ATLANTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University assistant women's basketball coach Shareese Ulis was selected to participate in the 2026 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Next Generation Institute, the association announced Thursday, Feb. 5.
Now in its fourth year, the curriculum of the WBCA Next Generation Institute focuses on the CEO attributes needed to lead a program and be a problem-solver in today's ever-changing landscape of higher education and the enterprise of intercollegiate athletics.
"This opportunity is an honor and a privilege," said Ulis. "I am grateful to be in a space where I can be a part of such opportunities and to work with a boss and administration who support me in my quest to one day be a head coach. I am thankful to the WBCA Next Generation Institute for choosing me to be a part of the 2026 class. I am excited to step into this opportunity and learn as much as I can."
To be eligible for selection to participate in the program, a person must be a current WBCA member, must have at least five years' experience as a coach, and must be nominated by a current WBCA member.
"We are extremely proud that Coach Ulis has been chosen to participate in the WBCA's Next Generation Institute," said Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh. "Shareese [Ulis] has been a sponge from Day one and I know she will take full advantage of this opportunity to learn and continue to grow into the coach and professional she is striving to become. We are thrilled for her and excited for this to assist in her career advancement."
Ulis will attend the institute in conjunction with the WBCA Convention, which this year takes place April 2-5 in Phoenix, Ariz.
