– The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team delivered its strongest performance of the season against George Washington, Towson, and Fisk, placing second with a season-high 195.225 inside the Charles E. Smith Center Sunday, Feb. 22. The score surpassed Eastern's previous best by 1.100 points and included season highs on bars and floor along with six career and four season-best routines across the lineup. As a result, the Eagles improve to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference play.


How It Happened:
Eastern opened the meet on balance beam with a 48.800, highlighted by a season-best 9.825, tying for second from Keeley Kohler (Davison, Mich./Powers Catholic). Kendall Landry (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) made her beam debut and delivered a career-best 9.800, while Katin Childress (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) added a 9.775 and Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) posted a 9.750. Jacquelyn Patterson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) contributed a 9.650 as the Eagles set the tone with a strong opening rotation.

The Eagles moved to the floor and recorded a 48.975, improving their season high on the event by .500. Lowe led the way with a career-best 9.850, while Macy Nihart (East Lansing, Mich./Home School) posted a career-best 9.800 and Sanai Evans (Norcross, Ga./Paul Duke STEM) added a career-best 9.725. Priya Karle (Canton, Mass./Canton) contributed a season-best 9.825, and Landry scored a 9.775 as Eastern built momentum midway through the meet.

Eastern continued to vault, posting a 48.750 team total. Gwendelyn Cantu (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) delivered a career-best 9.825 to lead the rotation and placed third, while Landry and Genae Daniel (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) each added 9.750s. Lowe scored a 9.725, Abby Brushwood (State College, Pa./State College Area) posted a 9.700, and Savanna Dunwoody (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish) contributed a 9.600 as the Eagles remained consistent across events.

Eastern closed the meet on uneven bars with a season-best 48.700, surpassing its previous high by .200. Patterson paced the lineup with a career-best 9.850 and tied for third, while Analiah Solorio (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield Senior) added a 9.775. Kohler and Lowe each recorded 9.725s, Daniel posted a 9.625, and Evans contributed a season-best 9.500 to cap the meet.

Eastern finished with its highest team score of the season, surpassing its previous best by 1.100 points while posting season highs on multiple events. This marked Eastern's first win over George Washington, as the Eagles now hold a 1-4 record in the all-time series, and the Eagles also secured their second all-time victory over Fisk.
