Eleko's Hot Shooting and Double-Double Not Enough, Women's Basketball Falls at Toledo, 62-51

Eleko shot 66.7%, the ninth best single-game performance in program history, recording her 15th double-double of the season
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Despite a historic shooting performance and double-double from Sisi Eleko, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team dropped a highly-contested Mid-American Conference contest at the University of Toledo, 62-51, inside Savage Arena, Saturday, Feb. 14.
Eleko (Montreal, Quebec/New Hope Academy/Canisius) shot 10-of-15 (66.7%) from the field, the ninth best single-game performance in program history, as she recorded her MAC-best 15th double-double of the season, putting up game highs with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Peyton Hill (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) added eight points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Ainhoa Cea (Irun, Spain/IES Pio Baroja Bhi/Lipscomb) scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds, distributed five assists, and swiped three steals.
How it Happened
After falling behind by as much as seven points in the first quarter, Eastern fought back to lead by one, 17-16. Eleko spearheaded the EMU attack, scoring 13 points in the frame.
After a back-and-forth second quarter, Eastern went into halftime down one, 30-29, as the Rockets hit a buzzer-beating triple to take the lead. Eleko and Cea led the Eagles in the first half. Eleko ended the opening half with 17 points off 7-of-9 shooting and Cea posted four assists and rebounds, with two steals.
Toledo continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 40-33 advantage before Eastern Michigan went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Cea, to trim its deficit to 40-38 with 3:16 to go in the third. Toledo countered and stretched its lead to 43-40 heading into the fourth. Eastern Michigan played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint in the third quarter.
Eastern Michigan could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 62-51.

» Eastern's record went to 11-13 (4-9 MAC), and Toledo's shifted to 13-10 (7-5 MAC).
» The Eagles shared the ball well, recording an assist on 64% of their made field goals.
» Sisi Eleko, Peyton Hill, and Brooklyn Thrash (Wayne, Ohio/Elmwood/Canisius) combined to account for 76.0% of the Eagles points.
» Sisi Eleko notched her eighth 20+ point game of the season with 23 points off 10-of-15 shooting (66.6%). Her eight 20-point games are the second most in the conference.

» Alli Zajac (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) grabbed a career-best six rebounds.

» Eastern and Toledo met for the 96th time, the most between Eastern and an out-of-state opponent.
» Eastern now holds a 36-60 all-time record when facing Toledo and a 12-33 mark when facing them in Toledo.
» Sisi Eleko's 29 double-doubles rank second on the program's all-time list (since 1997). She needs two more to tie Ce'Nara Skanes (2020-23) for the most in program history (31).
» Sisi Eleko's 66.7% clip from the field is the ninth best single-game shooting performance in program history.
» Peyton Hill now totals 356 points this season, the eighth most by an EMU freshman in program history.
» The Eagles have recorded at least one three-pointer in 156 consecutive games, the third-longest stretch since the start of the 1999-00 season. The longest streak in that period is 281 games, which began with seven makes at Northern Illinois, Jan. 31, 2002, and ended with no makes in the MAC Tournament, March 11, 2011, against Toledo. The second-longest lasted 157 games and started Dec. 9, 2014, and ended Nov. 29, 2020, against visiting UIC, when no makes halted the streak.
