Kyrie Lowe Leads Eastern to Golden Girls Meet Victory

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference action after claiming first place at the Golden Girls Meet with a team score of 193.900, topping Northern Illinois University at 193.200 and SUNY Brockport at 191.100, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. Eastern delivered strong performances across all four events, highlighted by event wins, multiple career-best scores, and an all-around victory from Kyrie Lowe.
How It Happened:
Eastern opened the meet on vault and posted a 48.700 team total. Two freshmen and one junior transfer delivered career-best performances on vault, as Savanna Dunwoody (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish), Kendall Landry (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland/Minnesota), and Georgie Slack (Uttoxeter, England/Thomas Alleynes) each scored 9.775 to tie for third and lead the rotation. Gwendelyn Cantu (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) added a 9.700, while Abby Brushwood (State College, Pa./State College Area) recorded a 9.675 to round out the lineup.
The Eagles moved to bars next and tallied 48.050. Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) claimed first place in the event with a 9.825, while both Genae Daniel (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Cantu posted career-high scores of 9.675 and 9.700, respectively. Analiah Solorio (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield Senior) added 9.650 to keep Eastern in front.
Beam followed with a team score of 48.650. Katin Childress (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) placed second in the event with a 9.800, while Solorio finished close behind with a 9.775. Lowe added 9,750, and Keeley Kohler (Davison, Mich./ Powers Catholic) contributed a 9.700. Freshman Macy Nihart (East Lansing, Mich./Home School) closed the rotation with a career-high 9.625 for the Eagles.
Eastern finished the meet on floor with 48.500. Lowe tied for first in the event with a 9.800, matching her career best, while Dunwoody recorded a career-best 9.725. Nihart also added a career-high score with a 9.650, as Priya Karle (Canton, Mass./Canton) scored 9.725 and Brushwood recorded a 9.600 to seal the team victory.
Lowe also captured the all-around title with a score of 38.825, marking the top all-around performance of the meet.
