McEachern won the weight throw with a MAC-leading mark at the Wolverine Invitational
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University track and field student-athlete Jake McEachern was named Mid-American Conference Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday, Jan. 14.
McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) earned the honor after winning the weight throw at the Wolverine Invitational, a meet hosted by the University of Michigan, Jan. 10, with an 18.85m (61-10.25) toss, a mark that currently leads the MAC. This award is the first of McEachern's career and first from an Eastern track and field student-athlete since Alsu Bogdanova earned the honor Dec. 6, 2017. The last time a member of the men's team earned the honor was March 1, 2017, when the award was given to Willy Fink.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
In addition to MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, McEachern also collected his first MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week award to start the season, Dec. 10. He earned the honor after placing second in the weight throw with a toss of 18.82m (61-09.00) at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open, Dec. 5. His throw led the MAC and ranked 30th in the NCAA.
Up Next
The Eagles will return to Ann Arbor for their next meet as they will compete at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, once again hosted by the University of Michigan Saturday, Jan. 17.
